Over the past weekend, The Star Press reported the former GM plant lot, which closed in 2006 and demolished a couple of years later by RACER Trust, will be made into a large solar farm. Muncie Mayor Dan Ridenour cannot disclose the agreement he made to buy the 53-acre lot, but the project is expected to offer 24.6 million kilowatt-hours of generating capacity. The project will cost approximately $17 million. Because of the lot’s size, Ridenour said in a press release, it’s a perfect environment for a project that will provide clean, renewable energy. A developer has been chosen to oversee the project, but that information is also disclosed as of right now.
